Terms: What a Wonderful World
I see trees of green, red roses, too,
I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white,
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky,
Are also on the faces of people going by.
I see friends shaking hands, sayin', "How do you do?"
They're really sayin', "I love you."

I hear babies cryin'. I watch them grow.
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Certain types of novels, articles, or even images has social intentions. One of them is satire, "It is a style of writing, or art, which ridicules or criticizes its subject often as an attempt to accomplish change." Which is what both the Adbusters image and Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World bring about. Both these pieces have created a question and fear on what these technological advancements can lead a society into. Both Brave New World and Adbusters share the same satirical message that science and technology is created for an advancement in social and cultural developments, however ironically it resulted in a degradation of social and cultural relationships.…

Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World, demonstrates that use of technology that we use today. Comparing the book to society today, in 632 A.F. The government had owned all of the new studies, almost too much of the experiments. It had way too much control over the social lives of the natural citizens. Every new body that is born becomes of the governments liking, which leaves “natural” child birth out of the picture. It is known as the Bokanosky Process, taking the ovaries out of a woman and hypnopaedic conditioning. The mindset the government had was they were constantly making newer and better technology to create “perfect” individuals without error.…

A society in the future can be very distinctive apart from a society in the modern day. Brave New World, written by Aldous Huxley, is a novel in regards to a utopian society. It takes place in the future where all is advanced and people are no longer born. Instead, reproductive technology is developed and futurology is emphasized. The majority of the population is divided into classes and no one is able to think for themselves. The novel is ironic at points and uses satire profoundly. Huxley uses irony to satirize religion, family, and sex.…

Everyone would agree that today’s youth is a little backwards, but let’s go farther than that. Looking at society as a whole, today's world is much worse than what it should be. There is a huge lack of empathy and too much sensitivity; the amount of close-minded people on this earth is crippling; major masses of judgemental people are dragging everyone down. There are many more issues, but that short list is big enough in it’s own way. Very few things would stay the same in the new world; it needs a lot of remodeling.…

    War of the Worlds

War of the Worlds was written in response to several historical events. The most important was the unification and militarization of Germany, which led to a series of novels predicting war in Europe, beginning with George Chesney's The Battle of Dorking (1871). Most of these were written in a semi-documentary fashion; and Wells borrowed their technique to tie his interplanetary war tale to specific places in England familiar to his readers. This attempt at hyper-realism helped to inspire Orson Welles when the latter created his famed 1938 radio broadcast based on the novel.…

What would life be like today if the federal government had absolute control? No freedoms for anyone whatsoever. The government controls when citizens may sleep, eat, do a job, and even control when citizens are allowed to speak. Would life really be worth living? We as readers are able to gain a small taste of what this would be like after reading the classic novel 1984, written by George Orwell. In the lonely, lifeless setting it is clear that the government has gained complete control when readers look at the two star crossed lovers, Winston and Julia. These two desperately want nothing more than to live a peaceful life together; however their communication is high treason. When reading the novel we can clearly see through motifs of the idea of double think, thought to be friends, and fear, that the government is able to control all aspects of life.…

In the essay “America Needs Its Nerds” by Leonid Fridman, he writes that Americans are so concerned about sports and popularity that they tend to neglect education. This is very true to where I come from. My high school community emphasized sports rather than education. It did not matter if you got good grades or not. Students are not learning to become doctors, scientists, teachers, or any other important job that will help our future. All that mattered was how well the high school students did on the field or the court. The education system’s focus appears to be on how students can become better athletes as opposed to a better future for America. Fridman’s claim is that America is going to become more dependent on other countries if we, as Americans, do not change our ways and encourage academics.…

In the 1932 novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley many characters go through internal and external conflict. Many of the conflicts occur because of sacrifices, suffering and other hardships. These hardships include suffering and harming yourself and others in order to purify yourself and others. Huxley’s theme about suffering is that it is necessary to purify oneself of base desires.…

Brave New World contains many archetypes in many different characters. Archetypes are an idea that Carl Jung, a well-known psychologist, came up with. Archetypes are the type of person you are and it comes from you unconscious. You can be several archetypes and they can change many times. But to talk about all of them would take to long, so I am going to focus on two specific archetypes the orphan and the seeker.…

I live in a world today where most people view the world in one perspective, their perspective. This is because people want to believe in what makes sense to them and because it’s simple and easy. But to get a good worldview you have to look through the lens of the remaining 7 billion people also living in this world. How people understand and look at the world affects on how they relate to other people of different beliefs. Some people express hate and others practice peace. This depends on how you view the world.…
