Abstract
It is the leading telecommunications service provider in the country with more than 37.6 million subscribers as of June 2012.Grameenphone has been recognized for building a quality network with the widest coverage across the country while offering innovative products and services and committed after-sales service. Grameenphone has always been a pioneer in introducing new products and services in the local market. GP was the first company to introduce GSM technology in Bangladesh when it launched its services in March 1997.The technological know-how and managerial expertise of Telenor has been instrumental in setting up such an international standard mobile phone operation in Bangladesh. Being one of the pioneers in developing the GSM service in Europe, Telenor has also helped to transfer this knowledge to the local employees over the years. It also looks into the possible shortcomings in the way human resource policies are conducted at Grameenphone Ltd and appropriate recommendations are provided for improvement.

Introduction
Grameenphone is currently the largest telecom operator in Bangladesh. It is a joint venture enterprise between Telenor and Grameen Telecom Corp. Telenor owns 55.8% and Grameen Telecom owns 34.2% shares of Grameenphone. The rest 10% shares are hold by public. Grameenphone is the second mobile operator in Bangladesh after Citycell. It started its operation on March 26, 1997 after receiving the license from the ministry of Post and Telecommunications on November 28, 1996. The company was incorporated as private limited company on October 10, 1996 and then converted to a public limited company on June 25, 2007. Trading of the shares started at Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges on November 16, 2009. The idea of Grameenphone was conceived by Iqbal Quadir who was inspired by Grameen Bank micro credit model. After leaving his job in USA, he traveled back to Bangladesh to gain support from various organizations. He was successful in raising money from New York based investor and philanthropist Joshua Mailman. He finally became successful in forming a consortium with Telenor and Grameen Bank to establish Grameenphone.
