Imagine this. It was early in the morning. The phone started ringing, it was only 5AM. You wondered who would call at this time? You ignored it. But the annoying ringing continues, so you pick up the phone. It’s your mom on the other line. She says to listen carefully. So you do. Then she tells you: Your best friend committed suicide. You didn’t know she was going through depression. Depression, its when you enter a place where beauty is transformed into nightmares. A place where heaven changes into hell. Where you’re personality disappear into sadness and anger; where you cant concentrate, make decisions or let go of guilt. Depression isn’t a choice, it isn’t something that you just get over. Depression is a disease. It leads to self-isolation, self-harm, and suicide. People with depression who cut aren’t emo, aren’t weird, and aren’t posers looking for attention. They just need help, love, and support. There are different types of depression: Major depression, Dysthymic depression and Bipolar depression. Major depression is the most severe case of depression there is. It has the same symptoms as all depression but it’s harder to get through this depression, it takes more effort. Dysthymic depression is a low level depression that lasts up to 2 years or more. When one is diagnosed with Dysthymic Depression they are very resistant to treatment. Bipolar depression, also known as manic depression has both high and low mood swings. Although all age groups are open to depression, teenagers are the most common to be heard of being affected by the disease. Although the rate of suicide as a whole has decreased in the past twenty five years, the fixed amount of suicide from those between fifteen and nineteen has sky rocketed and quadrupled. The number of deaths due to suicide each year is roughly the same number of deaths from AIDS. You can fall into depression if you get bullied, abused, or maybe its genetic.
