Teen Suicide Speech
Why should Teen Suicide be discussed in schools?

In life, everyone has to make choices. We have to make choices about what we eat, what we wear, and eventually, we have to a make a choice about what we want to do with our life. Young teenagers have their up’s and down’s, and their hormones start to go crazy. There are times when we have to face problems and make tough decisions. There are also times when we get really sad and emotional. There are also people in our lives that like to bring you down, and when you try to get back up they just push you right back down again. Sometimes these people, hard decisions, and problems start to get worse. The depressed feelings that you are having start to last more than just a few weeks. Sadly, some teens find that suicide is the way out, well it’s not. Suicide may be a way to end your life, but it’s not a solution.

In my opinion I think that this situation should be discussed in schools because some people don’t know how bad self-harm can get. It will hurt not only them, but the people around them. Such as, siblings, family members, friends, and other people that care about them. Some people say, “Oh, well just a few cuts is all I will ever do,” when in reality, you can’t stop. It’s an addiction. If schools can actually discuss things like this a lot more often and explain how bad things could get, then maybe kids will stop doing things like this.

Some people also say, “No, teen suicide should not be discussed in school. They say that it gives kids the idea to actually go and kill themselves or do self-harm. Also, they said that it is way too much responsibility, because if the kid did go and commit suicide, then they think it would be all their fault. In my opinion, it wouldn’t necessarily be their fault, the part when the teachers or staff didn’t talk to them would be their fault.

This issue is definitely debatable. People have their own opinions about this. This issue is a very important thing to

Schools should screen children and teenagers for signs of mental illness and suicidal tendencies, with a parents consent, because it may prevent disasters and the children and teenagers can get help before the problem escalates. “‘This screening can save many lives by catching problems early on. If suicidal tendencies and other issues that will cause a negative effect on a child later in life weren’t caught in time, we could lose so many innocent human beings. "Screening is a valuable way to proactively identify kids at risk of suicide. It allows kids to self-report to us what they are feeling and how they are feeling. You don 't see third- and fourth-graders walking into a counselor or principal 's office and saying: 'I feel bad. ' Middle-schoolers and high-schoolers don 't tend to seek out help. They don 't have the experience to know what is normal.’” (James Mazza, sirs.com, 1)…

Teens who unfortunately killed themselves show that they had problems, like different disorders or psychiatric problems (Otsuki, Peterson, Kim). When someone is depressed, they feel like their only option is suicide to end the pain. “Girls cry out for help, while boys are taught to be tough and never to “act like a girl” (Portner 5). Both genders need to be treated equality, if a guy wants to cry and pour their heart out why should people stop them. The reason why teens go on with committing suicide might never be known but we know some reasons. Life can be hard and very unfair but teens need to realize that they have a whole world in front of them. Life is more than that blend moment they are having. There are so much suicide awareness but sometimes people forget that it is a real thing and people are fighting wars with their mind. My high school also started having suicide issues and deaths over time. I personally went through a lot of hardships in my freshman year and dealt with bullying that made school hard to go too at times. In my tenths grade year the school started an all-day assembly called “Words Hurt.” The whole tenth grade class spent the majority of the day in the auditorium, and then we would divide into classrooms for group discussions. During the assembly videos of hate speech, and images from the holocaust were shown. In the back ground of my schooling in my town, the holocaust is a huge topic that is covered in middle and high school, and was taken very seriously. The assembly also had students that were on stage that told us their stories of being bullied, and their troubling home lives. Some of the kids were my friends, and I had no idea they had it so bad. I had one friend that was Muslim and was picked on ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened. He was picked on and blamed for the attacks. I was enraged that he was being picked on over something he never even did or had any ties with. Another friend was on stage talking about all the times she attempted suicide and had trouble with everyday things including bullying. She is one of the smartest girls in school and her story along with others made me…

Teen suicide is a topic that is very close to my heart because I have a personal connection to the matter. I have lost more than a couple of friends to suicide and feel that this is an issue that absolutely needs to be addressed. Teen suicide is climbing substantially high on the list of the leading causes of death in today’s youth. It is developing into a terrifying epidemic and continues to skyrocket as time passes. Although this social issue currently has a significant amount of attention, it will continue to snowball out of control if additional changes are not made. Presently in schools one of the main focuses besides education is physical health. Educators spend a considerable amount of time emphasizing the importance of a healthy diet…

The number of adolescent deaths from suicide in the United States increased dramatically during the last few years between the ages of 13 to 24, surpassed only by homicide and accidents. According to data collected by the Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) in 2003, 8 percent of adolescents attempted suicide, representing 1 million teenagers, of whom nearly 300,000 receive medical attention for their attempt; and approximately 1,700 teenagers died by suicide each year (Moskos, Achilles, & Gray, 2004).…

I think teens need to relax more and try to find their happy places so they can feel refreshed not feel sad or even suicidal. Suicide is a scary thing that society likes to disregard and look the other way when it happens. In fact, suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15- to 24-year-olds. Studies show that at least 90% of teens who kill themselves have some type of mental health problem, such as depression, anxiety, drug or alcohol abuse, or a behavior problem. They may also have problems at school or with friends or family, or a combination of all these things. ("Teen Suicide Statistics." Www.healthychildren.org. American Academy of Pediatrics, 20 Aug. 2015. Web. 26 Oct. 2015.) That worries me quite a bit, I want my peers and me to live in the moment and be enthusiastic human beings. Teenagers need to wrap their heads around life before they make stupid, life ending situations. I think peace needs to be distributed throughout high schools across the…
