One hot button topic that has been affecting the United States and other countries is teenage pregnancy. Although, teen pregnancy has decreased over the previous decades, the United States of America has continued to have the highest birthrates to teenagers than any other country. Every twenty-six seconds, a United States teenager becomes pregnant, every fifty-six seconds, another adolescent gives birth, and every hour, fifty-six children are born to teenagers. Approximately 300,000 babies were born to young girls between the ages of 15-19 in the year of 2011. Girls 15 and younger seem to have the main rise in teen pregnancy. “Not all teen births are first births. In 2009, almost one in five teen births was to a teen mom who already had at least one baby (OAH).” A high percent of teen mothers are unmarried and had an unintended pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is a very serious issue, these are things that affect the teenager life and also the life of the baby they are giving birth to, as well as family members who support the teens. Teen pregnancy is 100 percent preventable by practicing abstinence. Communication and getting knowledge about the subject can also help prevent teen pregnancy, but if you plan on having sex you should take the following precautions to prevent from getting pregnant. Using condiments like condoms, female and male condoms are available as well as birth control. There are several types of birth control, you can use the pill that you take every day for 30 days each month, you can receive the shot, you can receive the ring that you insert into the vagina, you can use the patch, or even use the birth control sponge. As you can see there are many ways to prevent teen pregnancy.
