Teen Driving
I think that the driving age for teenagers is perfect; we are not the worst drivers on the road.
Teen driving is a hard subject for a soon to be driver to talk about, without being unbiased but I will try my best. The argument facts for pushing the driving age back are the amount of teenagers, deaths and accidents in the past decade. I’m here to tell you that our age and responsibility level is not the problem. The problems are non-car distractions such as; alcohol, music, drugs, friends and other bad drivers. You probably didn’t know that we are actually getting smarter by the year and we have probably the best driver’s education program of all time.
My first topic is alcohol and drugs. Did you know that 60% of fatal accidents of drivers 21 and under were caused by alcohol and that 70% of teenagers drink alcohol? It’s obviously not just reckless driving that causes accidents in today’s society for people 21 and under. I don’t see the problem in the kids, but rather the police and parents that allow the flow of alcohol and drugs. We need to start restricting the flow of alcohol and drugs. One way teens are buying these substances is with fake ID’s. I think that the expiration dates on IDs should be faster and have no lenience. Parents need to start enforcing curfews on kids and need to make sure that the parents that are in charge of their kids are responsible enough to care for extra kids. If parents and law enforcement were to work together to stop the flow of alcohol and drugs to teenagers then we would have safer roads and safer drivers.
We also now have better drivers learning centers. We are learning more than any adult out on the road. We have to attend like an 80 hour driver’s course and have to drive a huge amount before we can even go and try to get our license. So education is not at fault here. Back in the day if you wanted to learn how to drive you learned from your parents or another family member. We now have that plus certified... [continues]
