School organizations in the past limited the use of technology to the schools and districts level main offices. Technology plans simply meant replacing the computer when no longer operable. The integration of computers into the classroom has led many school districts to reconsider and expand their technology plans. Many elementary schools have been unable to find the appropriate employee to handle all the new technology demands. This is mainly due to their struggles in understanding the knowledge, skills, and time needed for implementing an effective technology program. In many circumstances, the schools engage teachers and administrators to take over the work of implementing technology. Often time, they recruit the media specialist or volunteer that has had some intermediate or advanced computer skills. The use of these employees has created job dissatisfaction and resentment due to the double duty imposed on the employee. This dissatisfaction has in turn led to the implementation of many mediocre technology plans. Schools now have had to rethink on how to develop and implement a strong effective technology plan that would effectively create an environment that will provide the schools with a topnotch technology program. The implementation of such a program creates the need for a position dedicated to reaching their technology goals.

The duties of the Technology Coordinator would be to manage all efforts to employ technology in the classroom by helping teachers integrate technology into their curriculum, managing the school’s laptop, netbook, and iPod programs, creating computer labs, helping maintain all equipment and training personnel in the use of computers.   The following is the job description required to have a fully functional Technology Coordinator.
