Technological Communication
People walking down the street talking or texting to friend on cell phone are not strange image anymore. It becomes familiar to most of us as a part of society. Cell phones, e-mail, Internet, television and social network are essentials with us in modern days. As the generations of “Net Generation”, I am adapting to the new form of communication. I understand how important technology has become. Therefore, I agree with Amy Goldwasser’s viewpoint about the convenient that new technology give for our lives as it is easier to keep in touch with some one, or keep up everything, and is a useful tool for education purpose in her article “What’s the matter with kids today?” Technology is making our communication easier in modern world today. However; we have to know how to control using technology so that it doesn’t interfere our relationship around us. In addition, we all are human we need the connection that is vital for our existence in human relationship. Today, it’s much easier to communicate with others than before by many advantage that technology brings to our lives. We can send and receive messages instantly by clicking a button on our cell phone. This has improved our lives in many ways by allowing us to become more interconnected and knowledgeable about the world. Many years ago, the only way people communicated with each other was meeting face-to-face or writing letters. Sending a letter might take them four or five days to receive. In the way of being delivered, many letters were lost or misplaced. Thus, people who were living or working in different countries might be unable to meet or communicate to each other. Moreover, it costs a lot of money for traveling and sending letters if people live too far from others. Nowadays, we are happy with the advance of new technologies such as email, cellular phones, Internet and social network. People can talk with each other through mobile phones, chat through the Internet and leave a message through e-mail or beeper if someone is not at home. In the business world, technology allows us to be connected 24-7, whereas before it was impossible to catch up with everything instantly. Technology has indeed created an effective way for people to keep in touch with one another. Therefore, technology is building bridges, which connects people from all corners of the world communicate with each other quickly and easily. Moreover, technology becomes a great tool provide people about knowledge. For an example of the good profit that technology brings to our lives, Internet, Goldwasser points out: “The average teen choose to spend an average of 16.7 hours a week reading and writing online.” The author believes Internet will be a great tool to help teenagers today develop them into deeper thinkers or better writers. Kids tend to know more than the previous generation because they have easier access to any information all over the world by using the Internet. As Amy assert, “Once we stop regarding the Internet as a villain, stop presenting it as the enemy of history and literature and worldly knowledge, then our teenagers have the potential to become the next great voices of America. Once of them, 70 years from now, might even get up there to accept the very award Lessing did – and thank the Internet for making him or her a writer and a thinker.” From the connection through Internet, kids can share information and learn many new things from each one by social network sites. Furthermore, something that we don’t know or understand now they can explore in font of us through searching or asking by online. Therefore, technology is great utility for our targeted research and education. On the other hand, even though technology is a great bridge to connect people to people more closely, however, it is also creating a larger gap between parents and children. When in the past parents only had to deal with television and friends distracting their children, they now have...
