Technological Advancements
Technology has by far, been the greatest accomplishment man has ever created. A vast majority of individuals today have become dependent on technological devices such as cell phones, computers, and household appliances. Today’s society has been greatly blessed to be in an era of high tech advancements which many have taken for granted. Technology according to Dictionary.com (2012) is defined as a branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. Technology has given life a stepping stone to greater heights as it has improved how the people in society live and go about their daily lives. Without such advancements society would not be living in a world of simplicity today. Technological advancements have been greatly embraced by today’s society because of how far technology has evolved and aided in hospitals, as well as in the work place and in homes around the world. Due to advanced technology being utilized in many hospitals today, life expectancies of average Americans have increased dramatically. Statistics show that during the 1900s, the average life expectancy for the United States population at birth was about 47 years. By 1950 life expectancy at birth increased approximately to 68 years. As of 2009, life expectancy greatly improved for the average American and averaged at birth to about 78 years (National Center for Health Statistics, 2012). Looking at the statistics, it shows how technological advances as well as medical science played a major role in which helped the United States population life expectancy improve. Medical technology has come a long way. Having such advancements such as; vaccinations, advanced digital imaging, and artificial body parts have greatly improved life expectancy.
