A team by definition is a group of people who have gathered together to work on specific goals. However, the goals that each member of the team wants to achieve can be varied; and this might cause conflict within the group. Once in high school I was put into a group of two other guys who happen to be very lazy. Poor me! We were supposed to put together a presentation for our English Class. I have always had high expectations and hoped to get a GPA of 4.0 while the other two members of the team just wanted to get the assignment over with and pass the class. It was very difficult for me to work with them because they did not prepare for the meetings; hence I had to work pretty hard in order to get good grades. Fortunately, for Business Frameworks I am working with others who have high expectations as well; and we all hope to get a High Distinction.
Communication is very important in teamwork. I think we should have a physical meeting at least once a week to see how everybody doing by playing small games since we still do not know much about one another, so it should be a good chance to open up. Other new information that needs to be shared among the group should be sent via email – to me, it is better to send the information to my RMIT email as I now check that email much more often than my personal email. Team members can also meet online. Lucky for us Yahoo! Messenger has a conference feature that allows more than two people to talk at once. For emergency cases mobile phones would be very useful. In high school it was rather hard for me to have meetings with everybody in my groups at once. Each member has a different schedule and a different way of transportation. We were sometimes unable to meet during school for we did not have a free period together; it was also difficult to meet after schools for some of us had to take the school bus, and some had sport practices. Hence, most of the discussions were held online.
