There are many different areas that make up team dynamics.   Even though conflict resolution is only one of the important aspects to team dynamics, it should be a consideration when working in a team.   Being able to resolve conflict from within gives extra tools to be successful and being able to resolve conflict within a team gives focus.   Temme and Katzel put team conflict in great perspective.   According to Temme and Katzel, “…calling a team a team does not make it a team! Teambuilding must become a way of life - a behavior change on the part of management and its employees (1995)”.   Temme and Katzel are suggesting that while teamwork is a wonderful way to accomplish goals, it does not come without its difficulties.   There are so many different reasons that conflicts arise within a group, and this paper will explore some of them.
Personal Style
Styles vary from person to person.   Styles play an important role in each person’s opinion as it applies to team work.   One person’s style will affect another’s when working in a team.
“Team members are individuals first, and they each bring different talents, perspectives, values, and experiences to the work of the team. The more self-awareness each team member has, the more actively he or she can contribute. The more each team member knows about the other team members, the better she or he can tap into the talents and experiences of others for better team performance (Berens, 2004).”
Berens is trying to say in the above quote that the more a team knows about the each other, the more they are able to delegate out tasks that better fit each person’s style.   When the team is functioning at its best, each team member will be doing tasks that fit their personal style.   When you use each personal style differently and to its fullest, there is the highest probability of success.
