Week 05 Business Capstone Project - Team Building
Many organizations like to utilize teams and/or groups in the decision-making process. Analyze your project and decide the best time to involve a group in the decision making process. Prepare a 1-2 page essay that includes the following: * The best time to involve a group in the decision making process. * Include a description of the members whom you would encourage to be on the team. * If you cannot implement a group or team approach, why did you decide to make a solitary decision?

Team building for group decision making to solve issues and analyze problems and come with a decision within the group is what 3-Ddoes It can truly utilize. The team could determine the best solution working together instead of individuals doing their own thing. It true what they say that “Two heads are better than one” so a team working towards the same goal would really push the company in the right direction. Team building would improve communication, boost morale, motivate, improve production, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of each other so that the company would know what areas to focus on. The company would have weekly meetings where the team got together to discuss in issues on the job. Everyone would put in their thoughts and write down what the others say. Then they would brainstorm and find solutions. In some cases there may not be a solution to that problem but a way to avoid it from happening again. The advantage of this is drawing from each other’s experiences and sharing new ideas with the others. This would also bring the employees closer sitting in a friendly environment to have open discussions.

Working in groups is something we all encounter in our life, in and outside of work. A group - or team - consists of people working together because they have a common purpose or goal. Decisions are made by teams every day and it is imperative that the decision-making process be effective. Shortcomings in the decision-making process should be avoided (Thompson, 2004). A situation that can occur within a group is called Groupthink. Groupthink leads to the making of bad decisions because of poor judgment and lack of creativity from the team members. The power to agree becomes stronger than the power to stand up or speak out about your views or opinions. A group often ends up failing if they are stuck in groupthink for an extended period of time.…

The research on Boeing and Wal-Mart was done to show the how team building can affect the bottom line of an organization. Both Boeing and Wal-Mart used team building in different areas of the company. Boeing used it to motivate its workers in the plant to produce more. The strategy Boeing used to motivate its employees was to have the employees themselves set the goals and work together towards those goals. This strategy allowed the employees to make the commitment and as a team give their buy-in towards the commitments. The employees worked together in teams to get the job done.…

When coming up with alternative solutions and back-up plans, my team adopted the message-receiving process in which we listened to everybody’s suggestions, analyse them critically and shared honest feedback on the feasibility of each other’s ideas. This proved that the team did not group think. Throughout the process, we bared in mind the need to be open to feedbacks and criticisms, which allowed us to be more effective. Although there were functional conflicts during the process, the leader and the rest of the members would act as the mediator where collaboration instead of avoiding, competition and accommodating is encouraged.…

Sometimes working in teams can be time-consuming because of the need for coordination and consensus. Some individuals are simply not compatible with group work. On the other hand, teams may become efficient, but perhaps less creative if they begin to experience “group think.” (4) Another possible limitation of team building is that it may result in the organization resisting change. If there are replacements or transfers in personnel, people may be less flexible because of the strong relationships they have built. (4)…

INTRO: Many authors and theorists have different approaches to group decision making. Some differ from a couple of steps to five steps. The book however likes to use a seven step approach. A good example of our subject is this assignment itself. As a group we come together and form a solid opinion on which topic or assignment we should take. The book suggests that we follow a couple of guidelines when coming across a topic. As a group, we should be wording the question or subject as something to where we can seek out an answer. We should also be open to any opinions and finally answer questions in a logical manner.…

The concept of groups, teams and teamwork is a very important factor for good performance of the whole company. I read the case about the group of professionals who had to control and serve the new joint venture between companies from Japan, United States, and South America. This new company had to make, sell, and service pet caskets for the burial of beloved pets, mostly dogs and cats. During the first month of work, each company had assigned personnel to the task force. The members from every company were chosen to participate in the joint venture. As chair of the task force, Jose initiated a meeting of all the members of the new company. He gave historical information, and then he reviewed the market for the innovations of their prospective product. The task force was to develop the initial design parameters for the new product to meet increasing demand around the world. Next part of the meeting was opened to comments and suggestions. Mariana Preus, representative from Argentina, the head of product design, said that the current designs that they had in production in Argentina plant were just fine, and he didn't see any reasons to innovate the design of their product. All other members of the meeting agreed not to make any changes in the design of the product. Jose reminded to all of the participants of the meeting that their task force's purpose is to redesign the product and its manufacturing systems. Finally, Jose had to agree with members of the meeting and to write a memo to the council of presidents with the recommendation to use existing designs and to begin immediately to design the plant and the manufacturing system. The meeting adjourned,d and Jose returned to his computer and started to write the memo that, he knew, would anger the presidents. He wondered what had he done wrong and what he could have done to prevent such result of the meeting.…
