Biv) Describe the procedure to follow if you wanted to raise a grievance at work. You may describe this in writing or produce a flow chart or diagram.
The employee should raise the grievance informally with their manager. A note of the meeting should be kept. Stage 1
Where the grievance cannot be resolved informally the employee should raise it in writing with their manager. If the complaint is against their manager the employee should raise it with the next level of management. The Manager will respond to the grievance by arranging for a hearing of the grievance, where appropriate inviting any other staff who are affected by the content of the grievance. The Manager should provide the employee with the findings in respect of the grievance in writing within ten working days following either the meeting or the hearing. The grievance outcome should outline the employee’s right of appeal.
Should the grievance not have been satisfactorily resolved, the employee may then appeal to the next level of Management. They will then arrange an appeal hearing. The outcome of the appeal hearing (which will be final) will be notified to the employee in writing. The employee will be permitted to present their case at any hearing and has a right to be accompanied by a workplace colleague or a trade union official at each stage of the procedure, should they wish.
