Fire is one of the many symbols represented in Fahrenheit 451. Fire can be observed as both renewal and destruction. The biggest reference to fire is at the end of the novel when Granger explains to Montag the meaning and existence of the Phoenix. Granger explains that every few hundred years, a Phoenix will appear and burn himself to ashes. The Phoenix would then spring out from the ashes to be born again. Granger compares this reference to mankind and how it destroys himself, only to be rebuilt. The Phoenix is a symbol of renewal.…

Ray Bradbury talks about the fierceness of the firemen during the first 2 pages of the novel. He mentions of them igniting flames to burn books instead of relinquishing them in our dimension. This is the first indication of how Fahrenheit 451 does not take place in our current time. Montag, the main character as introduced a little while back, is shown to be one of these aberrant firemen that smile that fierce grin. Although, the section of the passage mentioning, “as long as he remembered” is foreshadowing the evident decline of his fiery…

When I read Fahrenheit 451, the most prevalent literacy style that jumped out at me was Ray Bradbury's use of symbolism. Symbolism is prevalent throughout the entire novel. Some of it jumps right out at you, but most of it a minute of pondering thought, and even more time of analytical judgment. I absolutely love symbolism. It has to be my absolute favorite literacy style. Symbolism creates a much easier device by which interpret a profound idea or concept. Fahrenheit 451 is chucked to the gills with symbolism.…

In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the presence of fire has obvious significance. What is important to look at, however, is how it’s meaning evolves throughout the book. As Guy Montag’s views change on society and the world around him, so does the connotation of fire. First, the fire represents power, and the satisfaction that comes with it. Then, as Montag is exposed to more radical thinking, the meaning evolves into violence and destruction. By the end of the novel, the image of fire symbolizes hope, as he works with Faber, and the book people to restore society.…

Fahrenheit 451 emphasizes many symbols throughout the book, one of them being fire, and how it can be more than just destruction. The theme of fire is shown by representing the destruction of books, however to other characters it is seen as more than just fire. "Burning book pages are compared compared to birds flying away (Bradbury, 2)." Burning books means more than its destruction. It also means that the book's history is no longer coming back. Fire has a powerful role in Fahrenheit 451 and its destruction causing things to change for its citizens. "The fireman feels powerful when he causes things to change (Lenhoff, 1)." The cover illustration for Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451 is fascinating. It seems to be another version of The Man of La Mancha, except the man is covered in newspapers that are on fire. Because the book is about censorship, the choice of covering the man in newspapers that are burning makes a lot of sense to the story. Joseph Mugnaini fulfills role number one, helping the viewer see the world in new and innovative ways by taking the idea of a knight (The Man of La Mancha) and changing his armor to newspaper. This idea is like taking an old iconic character, a knight, and putting a new spin on how one should interpret his role. Perhaps the knight is on fire because he is losing his battle, just like the main character in Bradbury's novel.…
