In this assignment I will evaluate the well known global brand that is Facebook. I will undertake research and analysis into factors affecting the companys internal and external environments using the SWOT and PEST analysis tools. Facebook is the most powerful social media Network which connects people in no time no matter where they are be in the world. It’s accessible from any place at any time without any cost. It is among the fastest media’s capable to convey a message around the world.
Facebook Company Profile
Facebook was founded in 2004 when a Harvard University student named Mark Zukerberg and two fellow students designed a website as a tool for students to network . Such was its popularity that it soon became assessible to other universities and selected companies including global brands Apple and Microsoft. It resulted in a shared network, enabling users to establish a virtual connection with friends and communicate with people all over the world at the touch of a button. It progressed to allow the user to share thoughts, pictures, plan up coming events and even offer businesses, marketing and advertising opportunities. Companies started to see the benefits of using facebook member demographics and stastics as a valuable Marketing tool to hit a much wider audience otherwise unattainable through other forms of networking.
Facebook became available to the global population in 2006 and has grown in users most recently one billion users in October 2012. It boasts members figures equvilant of 15% of the world population 3 times the population of the USA.
Facebooks headquarters are based in California with their international headquarters based here in Dublin’s Hanover Quay. They employ nearly four thousand people worldwide. Facebook personnel are expected to always act lawfully, honestly, ethically, and in the best interests of the company. Facebook have a mission statement and a vision statement its mission statement outlines what the company aims to accomplish, while its vision statement is based around what milestones Facebook wants to reach.

TALL V’s FLAT ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE
In my opinion Facebook is a flat organizational structure it has fewer levels which means that each manager will tend to have a wider span of control. As tall structures have many layers, each manager will likely have a narrower span of control. By reducing layers, a business can reduce costs, improve speed of communication and widen the span of control. In addition the size of the workforce may also be reduced which can further reduce a companys costs and lead to more flexible working practices.

Mark Zukerberg is the creator and co- founder of Facebook he is a computer programmer and graduated from Harvard University. He is also the chairman of their board of directors for Facebook.
Sheryl Sandberg is the COO (chief operating officer) at Facebook her role is to look after operations she is also a member of their board of directors. She has previously worked for Google Inc. and spent time on the United States Dept. of the Treasury
