The sun is a wonderful gift to us all. It’s a gift that’s so mighty, and can be likened to a father giving his child a gift as big as a planet. Whenever I wake up and see that it’s a sunny day, I take a deep breath and smile because the happiness ignites in me unconsciously. I love sunny days!
The sun’s existence brings about the weather and seasons like winter and summer. It is the center of many important cycles in life- the carbon-oxygen, nitrogen, photosynthesis, chemosynthesis and water which are so important; the lack of which could lead to a worse case scenario- death.
The deficiency of the sun causes a pale complexion in humans, yellowness in green leaves and stagnant growth of plants in general. The importance of the sun cannot be over emphasized but its effect could be damaging. As the saying goes “Too much of anything is good for nothing”. Singer Cheryl Cole sang “Too much of anything can make you sick. Even the good can be a curse”.
Winnie, a marketer with one of the leading insurance company, was somewhat confused when she found out after our brief consultation, that the freckles on her face were due to premature ageing that might have been catalyzed by her frequent exposure to the sun.
As a marketer, Winnie found herself shuttling up and down the streets for clients. This made her spend more time in the sun. In the early hours of the morning, when the suns exposure is adequate, it helps in the synthesis of vitamin D which functions as a Pro-hormone (a less ineffective substance that enhances the effects of different hormones) that helps prevent toxicity in the body. Its deficiency could lead to rickets in children, bone thinning and other diseases in adults especially females).   At least 10-15 minutes of sunlight per day, depending on your skin sensitivity, is actually good for you. Any more exposure would lead to different degrees of sun damage. Consequently, the Sun and heat came at a formidable price to her skin- ageing prematurely.
