There are some foods that no one can refuse even if it’s forbidden for them. Chocolate is that sort of tempting item that most of the people can often resist. Old or young, every individual from different ages can not resist its sublime temptation. So, most people cannot resist the temptation of eating chocolates. Let it be a festival or an ordinary snack, chocolate may be there as one of the delicious dishes. The wonder of its taste is so wonderful that it develops even chocoholics like alcoholics. There are some people who even eat a lot of chocolates to get over tough times. Of course this mouth watering wonder from heaven can also serve the purpose of gifts, especially on romantic occasions and so on. Thus, this temptation about this moth watering food items makes it one of the most high demand products in the world.

We always think that chocolate is a solid food that melts when it’s soaked. However as we go back to history, we find that it was in fact, a famous drink. Mayans were drinking chocolate 2,600 years ago and it was then called ‘Xocolatl’.

Chocolate has now become a global product which is now found all over the world. People may prefer this product for different purposes. Some may prefer it as a from of energy, some may use it as a festive dish, while some other may use it as a form of expression or gift and someone has it just because that person loves the taste of it. So, indulgence or expression, the demand of chocolate is now felt all over the world.

While discussing about the different aspects of chocolates the most important of it that rings the bell is the taste and the quality of it. Most of the European Countries are good at producing chocolates but one country that has competitive advantage in this industry is “Switzerland”

Chocolate producing companies like Nestle, Lindt & Sprungli, and Chocolate Frey etc gives Switzerland a competitive edge in this field. All around the world they are setting up their chocolate business and flourishing as they are known to produce best quality chocolates in the world. History of chocolate:

It can be traced back till 600 AD .In Yucatan the Mayas established the earliest known cocoa plantations. There is no doubt, however, that the Mayas must have been familiar with cocoa several centuries earlier. The use of cocoa beans as units of calculation must a1so have become established before A.D. 1000.Columbus landed on 30th July 1502 In Nicaragua and was the first European to discover cocoa beans. These were used by the natives as currency and also in the preparation of a delightful drink. But Columbus, who was still searching for the sea route to India, was not interested in cocoa. Hernando Cortez, who conquered part of Mexico in 1519 and he immediately establishes in the name of Spain a cocoa plantation where, henceforth, "money" will be cultivated. He was the first to introduce cocoa and the utensils in Europe.

Then in 1615, The Spanish princess Anna of Austria marries Louis XIII and introduces, amongst other Spanish customs, the drinking of chocolate at the French court. London's first chocolate shop is opened by a Frenchman in 1657. In 1671 A clumsy kitchen-boys drops a bowlful of almonds on the floor. The angry chef tries to box his ears and, in the process, spills a panful of hot, burnt sugar over the almonds. The Duke of Plesslis-Praslin, a marshal who is renowned as a gourmet, is waiting for his dessert. In hurry, serves the marshal with the almonds covered with a coating of cooled sugar. The guest is delighted with the novel dessert and promptly gives his name to the new sweet. Towards the end of the 17th century, chocolate makes its appearance in Germany. The policy of restricting the importation of foreign produce leads Frederick I of Prussia to impose a tax on chocolate in 1704. As early as 1720, the coffee-houses of Florence and Venice are offering chocolate whose reputation reaches far beyond the country's borders. About the...
