Sustainability and the London 2012 Olympic Games

This report will explore the importance of sustainability in today’s sports and illuminate the significance of the interplay between sports - the 2012 London Olympics in particular - and the environment. In addition a summary of the sustainability plan put forward by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as part of their bid to host the recent Olympic Games. This will include all five aspects of sustainability mentioned in the report with one of the aspects discussed in detail (when you decided which one to discuss replace the sentence) (Climate Change/Waste/Biodiversity/Inclusion/Healthy Living). Furthermore it will analyse the vision of the bid ‘Inspiring a Generation’ and ‘The One Planet’ concept, and their successful integration with sustainable and achievable business projects. Primary research among the students of GSM London on their views of sustainability has also been conducted. The report will layout the significance sustainability and acting in accordance with the environment has on humanity; why responsible behaviour is more pressing than ever. Moreover how sport and the Olympics can be incorporated into long term plans for sustainable living, London 2012 was a shining example and Olympic cities to come will follow its footsteps.
