Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability moves to the forefront of our corporate culture and global governments attempting to integrate decision making economic, environmental and social production. Sustainability is viewing the way our actions affect future generations and ensure that without depleting resources or cause pollution at a rate faster than the Earth can renew. Economic, social and environmental are taken into considerations fully for sustainable development to occur. It is defined as a requirement of our generation to manage the resource base so that the average quality of life that we can ensure eventually is shared by all future generations. (center of sustainability) The economies of industries are becoming more efficient in their use of materials, but generation of waste still continues to increase. Sustainable development could be achieved through all participants in all three levels individual, nation and state. By developing sustainability we can gain benefits for societies, states, companies, individuals and for our entire system. .SUSTAINABILITY MONITORING
The purpose of monitoring sustainability in business is about being able to identify the internal and external plans for business growth in the future and, more specifically, the installation plan along with the environmental friendly budget to achieve the efficiency of scarce resources. Monitoring systems help to measure the sustainability of the company on the environment. It is an effective process to keep in mind all the indicators and other resources that are used by the company. A good monitoring system should be able to meet the following requirements: reliable and precise, developed with the participation of stakeholders and citizens, in time, that information is available at key times throughout the year, contains a set of indicators to monitor the progress towards effects of vision and integrated into the community vision followed with the process of implementation of the action. There are many factors that affect sustainability. Therefore, it is imperative that a well-planned monitoring mechanism is in place to assess the state of sustainability at regular intervals. This will help to monitor issues related to sustainability at the earliest and to provide necessary information for any adjustments that may be made and improve prospects for sustainability. It is useful to establish such control over the predetermined indicators.
An indicator is something that helps you understand where you are, where you go and how far you are from where you want to be. A good indicator alerts you about a problem before it gets too bad and helps you recognize what can be done to solve the problem. Sustainable community indicators show areas where the links between the economy, environment and society are weak. They allow you to see where the problems exist and help to resolve it with possible solutions. Sustainability indicators are different from traditional indicators of economic, social and environmental. Traditional indicators -- such as the shareholder profits, asthma rates and water quality -- measure the changes in one part of a community as though they are fully independent from other parties. Sustainability indicators reflect the fact that the three segments are very closely related. (quebec)
