In this essay, I am going to talk about Somalia but I will give special attention to the issue of piracy. General information about Somalia
Somalia is a country located in the north east coast of Africa and it is a country which is currently having several problems. According to a calculation made in July 2012 its’ population is over 10 million people. The life expectancy in Somalia is very low for both women and men, for women it is 52.8 years and for men it is 48.86 years, this can be due to the criminality in Somalia and the famine in this country. Also the literacy rate in Somalia is very low due to a minimal amount of schools in the country, for males it is 36% and for females it is 14%. So in total the literacy rate in Somalia for the entire population is 24%. Somalia hasn’t had an effective government working since 1991 when the president Siad Barre was kicked out during the civil war which began in 1988 and is still continuing. The Somali civil war until now has killed at least 350,000 to 1,000,000 people due to the conflicts. In Somalia there has recently been a very serious drought which could at least kill 750,000 thousand people. Another big problem in Somalia are measles and cholera are very deathly diseases in Somalia because thousands of people die every year due to these diseases. These diseases are due to the lack of hygienic conditions in Somalia. One of the biggest problems in Somalia now is criminality because in the capital city, Mogadishu, several people have been kidnapped or robbed and then harmed. Like there is no efficient government in this country nobody has a possibility to control these criminals. The piracy issue
