Summary of Homo Religiosus by Karen Armstrong
HOW TO SUCCEED IN MY MOST CHALLENGING COURSE
BY Andra Buckner
SCS110 Fundamentals of Success
August 31, 2013

I was surprised to learn that I am an innovating learner. I often find myself looking for other ways to resolve an issue. I learn things easier if I am able to visualize. My English 141 class is going to be difficult for me. I struggle with writing. I find it difficult to form a topic sentence and I also have a hard time elaborating on a topic. Writing has always been a challenge for me and that is what English is based on. I am not sure what my instructors teaching methods are yet since it is still the first week of school but since this is an online course the advantage is that it feel somewhat impersonal. Seeing as though I am more of a visual learner, online school has been a challenge. My textbook however, seems to offer quite a bit of useful information. In the future I can make sure that I set aside enough studying time, I will participate in class discussions, and read even when I am not asked to. In my previous semester I found the live discussions to be very helpful. I will also contact my tutors when I need to and visit the school library. Other things that I will do is to make sure that I have a balance to reduce chaos, and feel passionate about what I want. I will learn to be more open-minded. I will allow others to share their views on different learning techniques. Being a person that find it easier to learn visually, I had never thought to use symbols and pictures as learning tools. Finally, I will make sure that my short and long term goals are set. Once I am focused on these goals, my determination in school will grow stronger and I will work harder. After I earn my associates degree I am planning to pursue an administrative position. My English classes are an asset to such a position since I will have many reading and writing tasks. I will make sure that I am passionate about what want. I suppose all of the changes would fall

The birth of a child seems natural to the physicians that help with the delivery process. Yet, religious midwives believe that it is a natural miracle caused by God. Unlike naturalist, the Christian, Fall, and Redemption (CFR) approach adopts the Godly and natural view. According to author Angela M. Sabates, the naturalist approach is that reality compromises material substances, and the immaterial (God, soul, mind) either does not exist or is irrelevant to an empirical investigation because it cannot be measured. The unseen is a hoax that cannot be proven real. Evidently, the reality of naturalism consists of observable facts and solid material explanations. Life origin, the purpose of life, self-seeking tendencies, fundamental need for…

I admire Walter Knotts, who was an unsuccessful Farmer until he nursed several abandoned berry plants back to health and became a successful Entrepreneur. As I complete my academic program, I intend to develop the success skills and abilities that will enable me to achieve my dreams of developing and managing a successful business. Walter Knotts is the perfect role model for me because for the fact that he started where most do, at the bottom and strived to make it and created a family business that was his dream. If I could have the ability to sit with Mr. Knott’s and ask him a few question, I believe I would ask him, what was the reasoning behind the concept of a “hybrid boysenberry? How did it come to the agreement of using Rudolph Boysen and him creating the Berry? And why did you want to set up a theme park?…

In the book “Religion in America” by Julia Corbett Hemeyer describes the various roles and feelings people have about religion within the United States. She goes into quite a bit of detail regarding how Americans display their religious beliefs, how they feel about people with different religious backgrounds, in particular after the events of September 11, 2001, and some of the contradictions regarding the leaders of some religious groups. The 1st chapter in the book was about how religion is studied and how people may define it. Basically, in my opinion when it comes to the idea of religion I think everyone generally has the same idea regarding it because if the average person were asked about religion they most likely would mention one…

Lastly i'm going to have a positive attitude in everything I do and try things that seem impossible. For example, when I first learned how to ride a bike it seemed impossible at first and if I gave up at the first try, it would be, but by having persistent and keep trying I started to get the hang of it. I practiced and worked on it a bit at a time and eventually it started to get easier for me. I learn from your mistakes and the more I worked the easier it got. I'm going to apply this to this year's English class because by having a positive attitude and keep on trying, I can receive the goal I want.…

The way I go about certain things have changed. The way I studied has improved majorly in college. In high school, I rarely studied. I would study for the final exam or a midterm, but I realized that would not slide at Spelman. When I first started studying in college, I was focused on how long I studied and not the content of what I was studying. Having the deeper meaning in the work and the context of what I am studying is key. Along the lines of studying comes with changing my procrastination. Procrastination is still an obstacle that I have to overcome, but I am working on changing…

On my first day of English 102-06 I was kind of nervous. I really did not know what to expect. Especially once I meet my professor he seemed a bit intimidating. However, I still wanted to challenge myself. He gave all of his students the option to drop his class if we were not ready. He mentioned that the work would be intense. I still was interest in taking this class although the said all of this. I thought to myself this should be easy. Since I passed English 101, I thought it couldn’t be any worse. I was in such a surprise. In English 101 you’re doing more essay than anything, which isn’t that hard. In English 102-06 it’s more of reading texts that you really don’t understand. It is intense but in a good way.…

Next, expanding myself as an auditory learner can greatly help me in the near future. I can become a better reading by reading aloud as much as I can. Hearing myself say things aloud will help me remember a lot better than silent reading to myself. I can also become a better writer by repeating things after I have written them down on paper. If I read what I have written aloud, I will get a better view on if the right words are being used correctly in that specific sentence. Also I will get to hear if that sentence, paragraph, or even full essay sounds like I’m doing well and staying on track. I…
