|An Essay About Study Skills |
The purpose of this paper is to look in depth at the factors involved in studying for a particular topic. I have been asked to choose a topic that has been covered in module NJ119 and study that certain topic. This essay though is not focused on the knowledge I have gained from the chosen topic but more about the way I studied it and anything that hindered or helped my study.
The topic I have decided upon is ‘infection prevention and control’. After attending a lecture on the subject on the twenty first of October I found the lecture to be far more interesting than I thought it was going to be and felt inspired to study it further and in more depth. I was especially interested as I have been working in health care for the last four years and have seen at first hand the effects it has. It was quite unsettling to find out that lack of infection control can have such a huge impact and cause such devastation within the health care sector and especially within NHS hospitals.
A handout that was given out in the lecture suggests that ‘one in ten patients have a HAI (Hospital Acquired Infection) at any one time’ National Audit Office (2000). Nearly half of these infections are urinary tract and lower respiratory tract infections and the other half of these infections include surgical wounds, gastrointestinal, skin, septicaemia and a small amount of other infections.
