Effective Study Habits Worksheet

Review Phoenix Career Plan results of Career Plan Building Activity: Work Culture Preference, respond to the following in 50 to 100 words each:

1. Describe your ideal study environment. My I deal study environment would have to be a place to myself, unless the subject I was studying was something I was having problems and complications with. I prefer to be sitting at my desk, in my living room at home. I need my headphones so I can drown out any distractions and all conversations that may occur around me. I need to be comfortable but not to the point I will fall asleep.

2. List some of the distractions that might hinder your study progress or your performance in an online classroom. There are a lot of things that can distract me while I’m studying. Other people are a distraction. My phone ringing or me receiving text messages are a big distraction. Sometimes the television can be a distraction if I have it on , which I normally don’t.

3. What actions can you take to manage and eliminate distractions? That’s why I like to have on headphones and listen to music while studying; this helps me keep my focus on what I am doing. Also, try to make sure when I am studying or working on assignments that I am alone in the living room. Then only time I’m not alone is when I am at the library doing my assignments and this is a great example of when my headphones and music really come in handy.

4. How will you apply your personal learning style? How does your personal Learning style affect your study habits? I will focus on learning strategies that involve seeing since one of my learning styles is Visual learning. I will draw lots of diagram, arrows, and pictures in my notes to help me see that is happening. Reading my notes, study sheets, and text repeatedly will be important strategy as well. By recognizing and understanding my learning styles, I can use techniques better suited for me and this will improves the speed and quality of my learning. My learning styles have more influence than I had realized.

5. List 5 effective study strategies from this week that you will use. Explain why you selected them and why they are effective strategies for online learning.
Concentrating, Planning, Time management, Effective note taking and Memorization are the 5 effective study strategies that I feel will proof the be the best for me while learning online. Memorization is a study skill that will follow me throughout my academic career and professional career. If I have excellent time management and organizational skills this will be a beneficial necessity for me to have a successful college career and in the professional world.

6. Identify one change you can make immediately to increase the effectiveness of your study habits. Explain how this will help you become more effective. The one thing that I will change immediately is when I study, I normally wait to do it 2 hours before time to go to bed, which sometimes is not a good idea. By waiting so late in the evening my body has started to wind down and I am less focused on what I am reading and what I am doing, and when I get sleepy I get frustrated and doing homework and studying are not a good idea to do while frustrated.

7. How does your personal learning style relate to your ideal workplace and your personal work competencies? It is easy can acquire knowledge from books or based on experience. I need to be aware that different skills and approaches are required for various situations. Working in a corporate environment would imply that I must learn through experience. Whereas, while in school I will be focused on all my academic success. This will lead to my professional success.

8. How is understanding your ideal learning environment applicable to selecting your ideal workplace? I feel that by understanding my ideal learning environment it is very helpful in selecting my ideal workplace. My ideal work place is to be able to work with people who hold the same ideas I share, but in the real world I know that not everyone will always be on one accord.I want to be personally committed to and actively works to continuously improve myself. I must be able to recognizes the need to change personal, interpersonal, and managerial behavior; and actively seeks feedback. Aslo, I will be dedicated to continuous learning and self-improvement, and aggressively undertakes activities that premote intellect, to build new skills, and to build up any of my existing skills.

    According to Palm Beach Community College (PBBC, 2008),they recommend that student’s study should have at least three hours outof class for every hour spent in class. They also said that a student must havea special place to study with plenty of room to work. And students should notbe cramped. They presupposes that study time will go better if a learner takea few minutes at the start to straighten things up. A desk and straight-backedchair is usually best. “ Don't get too comfortable--a bed is a place to sleep, notto study” as what they said.     When developing good study habits, you have to set time for everything. Plan a daily schedule. With all the activities you need to do such as assignments and projects, you can’t just remember them. Writing them down, and planning when to do it will be the most effective way to remember things.
