Study Guide for The Bar
Most business majors aspire to own their own business or attain the title of CEO/CFO. For me, this opportunity presented itself last year when my friends and me started an investment group, JDD Investment Group. Our most recent project is to open a bar at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. Since I have never had any experience running a bar, I needed some insight on what equipment was needed to open and run a bar. So, I went to the bookstore and purchased Running a Bar for Dummies by Ray Foley. The book is a book that explains how to own and operate a bar from obtaining liquor licenses to managing inventory. After reading it, starting up a bar became an easy project. The organization, icons and visual aids made the frightful and complex task of starting a bar as basic as 1,2,3.
The book is organized into five parts, each a different step in the process of opening a bar. There is a brief description of each section of the book at the beginning of the book. Each part is then divided into chapter and the sections. The book is also put in chronological order from choosing a name for the bar to opening day. Putting the book in sequential order and splitting the book up into parts is very efficient because it allows the readers to select which sections apply to their needs and read those. Rather than plow through the entire book, you can find out what you want to know without having to first read the information that precedes it. In my case, we already had a name, a location, and a general sense of how to run a business, so I skipped over those sections and went to the sections about inventory and bar supplies and continued reading from there. In other words, this book gives you “get-in-and-get-out convenience. (Foley 5)”
To aid in this convenience, is the use of   “Conventions” and icons throughout the sections to attract the reader to important ideas or words. Italics is... [continues]
