My current environment consists of me sitting on the sofa with the TV on in the background for my son to watch. I have natural light coming in through my windows. My books, notebook, pens and computer are all is within arm reach. I don't have any food or drinks nearby to distract me. I ignore all phone calls and text messages unless they are important.

If I chose to sit at a desk I could make it my own little place that I go to. It could be personalized however I want it to be, a lamp, my books, paper and equipment that I’ll need. I would be able to open a window and let in some fresh air, which works wonders on a tired brain (Power Up page 43.). I wouldn’t have anything to distract me or grab my attention besides doing my work.
By changing my study environment from working on the sofa to a kitchen table or a desk would eliminate some of the noise in the background. I would also be able to focus more on work and not how comfortable I am and worried about falling asleep or getting out of study mode.
I could try doing most of my work while my son takes his nap instead of trying to keep him busy with his toys. By doing this I would be able to focus more and be able to get a lot done. I would not have to worry about making sure he is not getting into anything or if he is hungry, thirsty or needs to be changed. It would stop me from looking up every few minutes to check up on him.

Ignoring my phone calls or text can help just a little but the best way is to either turn them off or not have them with you when you’re studying. You could always tell your loved ones when you are going to study and ask them to not bother you with a phone call or by text. Just because you ignore your phone when it goes off it still got your attention away from your work even if it was for a few seconds. That few seconds could have broken your concentration and you don’t want that.
