Students’ view in Philippine government affairs
How much do we really know when asked about the government affairs here in the Philippines? These so called affairs are separated into three. The first is the executive branch, then the legislative also recognized as deliberative and last but not the least, the judiciary.
According to our professor in Politics and Governance with Philippine Constitution, Ms. Nancy Hadap, the best illustration of a unit of government here in our country that has these three branches is the barangay. It is directed by one chairman and seven kagawads. Elections are held every three years and people within the barangay are the ones voting. These elected officials help the people. They restore peace and order. They exhibit fairness in terms of fixing their people’s misunderstandings with each other. They fulfill their duties according to law. They also conduct feeding programs and medical check ups and they maintain the cleanliness in their territory. Same goes with the executive branch of our government. On top is the president, then the vice president. Elections are held every six years. In the executive branch, officials are to implement laws. That is why it is called executive, they execute the laws. Laws made by the legislative branch, which is composed of 24 senators, with also six years in term, and congressmen, with three years in their term, representing every district in the country and all partylists that made it in the elections. From what we know, these congressmen are the ones researching about what to improve, to build, to put into practice, and to change, everything that is for the general welfare. After researching about these necessities, the congressmen create the act that will support such and then pass it onto the senate.
