Course Objective:

International Investments and Capital Markets provides an “investor lens” in terms of how to (1) leverage financial market news, events and crises (2) to take “market positions” for investment (risk-taking) opportunities for possible profit or loss.

As context, we are currently recovering from one of the largest global financial crises in decades – the so-called “Subprime Crisis.” The course objective is to provide an overview of international investment and capital markets through the lens of this period (1) before, (2) during, and (3) after the initial Subprime Crisis, each with respect to (i) financial actors (i.e., banks, corporations, insurance companies, retail investors, etc.), (ii) financial products (i.e., equities, bonds, foreign exchange, derivatives, etc.), and (iii) financial markets (domestic, international), as seen in the below diagram.
