STUDENT SURVIVAL GUIDE
This class Gen 105 has taught me so much in the 9 weeks that I attended. The Topics that I learned were: Using Axia’s Educational Resources; Upholding Academic Honesty; Setting and Achieving Goals; Managing Time Wisely; Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention; and Applying Personality and Learning Skills.
Using Axia’s Educational Resources: I learned that files or course materials can be downloaded to your computer for easy access. There are digital stories that are provided in your materials. In addition to that there are audio appendixes that you can also download and put onto a portable device such as an mp3 player. I find this very useful, as I have an mp3 player. I can load it right up, and just start listening to my class work conveniently. For other educational resources that are made available to us, is the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE). This resource has many resources contained in one area. The CWE provides a plagiarism checker which occurs when you submit your original writing. It searches several databases of information, including the online library, and on the Internet. It will than come back with highlighted text that are within the document that matches other sites, or articles. The CWE also provides a service called WritePoint that provides feedback on basic grammar, and usage. Comments are inserted into the original writing. When I use these two services, I know that my work is not plagiarized. My basic grammar and usage is correct. I find these two services to be very academic helpful. I believe that every student needs to make use of the services that are provided. The CWE provides tutorials on software and grammar, gives samples of APA writing and information about APA, which is a standard in this University. The CWE even has a thesis generator, and a how to guide on writing essays. I will make it a plan to use the Center for Writing Excellence on a regular basis throughout my schooling.
