In the article “Sleep Deprivation and Stress among College Students”, H.G.Lund points out that more than half students affect by stress. The study shows the percentage of students sleep less than 8 hours per day. According to H.G.Lund, students don’t realize the value of sleep. The author also tell us what students use to stop them from sleeping, and their use can cause a higher risk of addiction. In the end, the author suggests Health Department should help students notice the significance of sleep.Students need sleep in order to focus and learn to the best of their abilities. However, sadly, many students are sleep deprived. One way for students to get the necessary amount of sleep is to realize the value of sleep; another way is to have good sleeping habits. According to the article “Students underestimate the importance of sleep in their daily lives.They forego sleep during periods of stress, not realizing that they are sabotaging their physical and mental health.” Many teenagers don’t know the significance of sleep. In college, many students who often sleep less than six hours. Chinese students usually work in Chinese or Japanese restaurant. They go home at least 11 pm. After they get home, they might do some homework, use their laptop, or have late dinner with their friends. When they realize it is time to sleep, it’s already over 2am.They have to get up at 7am in the morning because they have early class. Obviously, they only sleep about 5 hours, and it’s not long enough for students. Moreover, they would fall asleep in class. It’s better for them to realize the value of sleep, so they could follow up with their teacher and focus on their study. Many students don’t receive the necessary 8 to 9 hours of sleep. According to the article, “the study of 1125 students appears online in the Journal of Adolescent Health. It found that only 30 percent of students sleep at least eight hours a night - the average requirement for young adults.” They don’t have good sleeping habits. They don’t know the right time to go to bed. They prefer to watching TV, playing games or some other activities. These “exciting” events cause them to get insufficient periods of sleep. A way to prevent these negative sleeping habits is to have students learn about good sleeping habits when they are young. Students who have been educated, when they were younger, about sleep deprivation, and have learned to have good sleeping habits, will be better informed and prepared. Therefore, when they get older, they would get necessary amount of sleep. In order to help students realize the significance of sleep, health department should do some activities. As students’ realizing the advantages of sleep and having good sleeping habits, they will be able to get the necessary amount of sleep to function at their best.
