Network Topologies

PRACTICE Activity 2: Network Topology Paper

A hierarchical network resembles a star network in that several computers are connected to a central host computer. However, these "client" computers also serve as host computers to next level units. Thus, the hierarchical network can theoretically be compared to a standard organizational chart or a large corporation. Typically, the host computer at the top of the hierarchy is a mainframe computer. Lower levels in the hierarchy could consist of minicomputers and microcomputers. It should be noted that a system can sometimes have characteristics of more than one of the above topologies.
This topology is effective in a centralized corporation. For example, different divisions within a corporation may have individual microcomputers connected to divisional minicomputers. The minicomputers in turn may be connected to the corporation's mainframe, which contains data and program
Bus networks use a common backbone to connect all devices. A single cable, the backbone functions as a shared communication medium that devices attach or tap into with an interface connector. A device wanting to communicate with another device on the network sends a broadcast message onto the wire that all other devices see, but only the intended recipient actually accepts and processes the message.
Ethernet bus topologies are relatively easy to install and don't require much cabling compared to the alternatives. 10Base-2 and 10Base-5 both were popular Ethernet cabling options many years ago for bus topologies. However, bus networks work best with a limited number of devices. If more than a few dozen computers are added to a network bus, performance problems will likely result. In addition, if the backbone cable fails, the entire network effectively becomes unusable.
In a ring network, every device has exactly two neighbors for communication purposes. All messages travel through a ring in the same direction

Ring Networks, just as its name implies, require all computers or hardware to be connected in a continuous circle with no ending, hubs or switches. In this setup signals are passed along thru each terminal on its way to the end user. A ring network can be very difficult to install due to the circular configuration making it tough to do in a large area. There are multiple points of failure in this setup, if a cable or a piece of hardware fails this can lead to the entire network…

“A ring network is a network topology in which each node connects exactly to two other nodes, forming a single continual pathway for each node - a ring” (Conjecture Corporation, 2003). In a ring network data travels from each node to the other node/s with each node handling every packet. A ring network provides only a pathway between any two nodes at one time. Ring networks may be disrupted by the failure of a link. A node failure or cable break will isolate every node attached…

Networking is everywhere one of the main benefits is that we can share devices such as printers, scanners, CD-ROM drives and many more. Also, we can connect to networks as Meyers (2003, p3) said “one network can be connected to another network and become a more powerful tool because of the great resources”.…

Today’s market for fast prepped or “on-the-go” food is increasing, as individuals do not have time to spare for a traditional breakfast. Alongside with fast food restaurants and breakfast bars, demand is increasing for ready to go foods in the market. New models related with direct marketing towards consumers could contribute to blue ocean strategies. In particular, blue ocean strategies involving partnerships will move CPW in a less competitive region in industry. Some partnering strategies with:…

The Spice Girls were a British pop girl group formed in 1994. The group consists of five members, who each later adopted nicknames initially ascribed to them: Melanie Brown ("Scary Spice"), Melanie Chisholm ("Sporty Spice"), Emma Bunton ("Baby Spice"), Geri Halliwell ("Ginger Spice"), and Victoria Beckham, née Adams ("Posh Spice"). They were signed to Virgin Records and released their debut single, "Wannabe" in 1996, which hit number-one in more than 30 countries and helped establish the group as a global phenomenon. Credited for being the pioneers that paved the way for the commercial breakthrough of teen pop in the late 1990s, their debut album, Spice, sold more than 28 million copies worldwide,[1][2] becoming the best-selling album by a female group in music history. They have sold over 80 million records worldwide,[3][4][5] making them the best-selling female group of all time and one of the best-selling pop groups of all time,[3][6] and also making them the most successful British band since the Beatles,[7][8] and compared with Beatlemania.[9]…
