Stress Management Research Strategy
Stress and anxiety is estimated to affect the health of over 19 million Americans and growing. (Amagada, 2011) Stress is something that if not controlled can have some long lasting negative impact on a person’s health. Some of the most common health issues that are caused by stress are hypertension, stroke and heart attack. Stress can also cause people to suffer from mental health problems like anxiety and depression. (Amagada, 2011)This is a problem that runs in my family and I have seen how detrimental it can be to my health. Due to a demanding career, continuing education, and an eleven month boy at home stress has become a normal part of my life. I am looking for an effective ways to work through and eliminate stress so my health is not impacted in the long run. In my role as a father, manager, and a student I need to better prepare myself to manage stress as much as I can so the effectiveness of each of my roles is maximized. Information Gathering
The information I will gather to help me solve this problem and manage stress will be a couple of different ways. First I will use on-line articles and informative websites on stress management techniques to become familiar with the details of stress and how to manage stress. Second, I will interview someone who has been in a similar situation as I am in currently. I will also need to document where my time is spent and if it is in line with my values. The process I will use to evaluate the information that I gather will consist of distinguishing fact from opinion, and also the process of compare and contrast. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007). The process of distinguishing fact from opinion will help me to fully understand types of stress build up rather than an opinion of an individual which could be coming from someone in a completely different situation that I am in.
