Stress and Illness in the Workplace Matrix

Use the following table to describe the relationship between stress and health in the workplace and to identify ways to reduce stress in the workplace. If you use additional sources, include citations consistent with APA guidelines.

What is the relationship between stress and health in the workplace?
Stress and health work together in the workplace. If a person is stressed at work then their work won't be the best work possible. Stress can lead to bad habits that are unhealthy and can cause emotional stress like depression. (Collingwood, 2010)
Identify a situation in which you experienced stress in the workplace or provide a fictional example.

I was in a stressful work environment while working for a rehabilitation center in the kitchen. My boss was a very rude individual who always wouldn't hire more help when we needed more help. I was under so much stress that I ended up having a seizure in front of the staff and residents. This caused me to become more weak and unable to keep up with the job. It was no longer enjoyable and I wasn't getting any better.
List ways to reduce stress in the workplace from the situation or example you provided.
The easiest way for me to reduce my stress was to find a different job that was better for me and less stressful. I also tried to relax at home by watching movies, taking warm baths to relax my muscles and to talk to my fiancé.
How do social-support systems modify stressors on an individual?
Social-support systems help people to understand that they aren't the only one who has stress in the workplace. Social support can help people lower stress because they have others they can talk to. Lower stress can make work easier for people and can help have a healthier outlook and a healthier future.

Work-related stress is one of the biggest causes of sick leave in the UK. If you’’ve noticed you always seem to be rushing about, or miss meal breaks, take work home or don’’t have enough time for relaxation, for your family or for exercise, then you may well find yourself under stress, especially at work. There is often no single cause of work-related stress, but it can be caused by poor working conditions, long hours, relationship problems with colleagues, or lack of job security. Stress is often the result of a combination of these factors that builds up over time. Work-related stress can result in both physical problems, such as headaches, muscular tension, back or neck pain, tiredness, digestive problems and sweating; or emotional problems, such as a lower sex drive, feelings of inadequacy, irritability and lack of concentration. According to recent surveys, one in six of all working individuals in the UK said their job is very stressful, and thirty percent of men said that the demands of their job interferes with their private lives.…
