It is Friday afternoon, she has a demanding two-year-old, a hungry spouse coming home from work, and she has a million tasks to do! The weekend is creeping up and instead of thinking of all the fun activities to do; she is stuck with writing a paper, composing a newsletter for church, house cleaning, making dinner, and keeping her toddler entertained. What will she do? What will her family think about her decision? Will she cater to just her family needs and throw out her entire academic and church calling out the door? Perhaps, just neglect the house and let her family starve because her assignments are priority. There are countless ways to handle this situation without the blood pressure rising. Three changes will help decrease stress: implementing a healthy balance in life, maintaining a positive atmosphere, and implementing better time management.
Society experiences stress on a daily, which is the inevitable. The demand in life is high and with so many tasks to accomplish and only 24 hours in a day is stressful. Several actions can prevent stress or minimize stress, when found in a tight situation in life. In one way or another, we all have factors in common such as a job, a spouse, family, school, church, and home. We are constantly juggling and acquiring to decide what is more important. When that occurs, we must triage so to speak, the situation in demand to cut out the stress or at least try to minimize it. Such task is not as hard as we think; learning to keep it under control may take some practice. “Stress is an unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that they perceive as dangerous or threatening to their well-being” (Woolrich, 2004, 16). Stress is mainly how one perceives it. It may be different from person to person, what one person sees to be stressful to another person it may not be.
