Strategies Used in Health and Social Care Environments
Unit 1 Assignment 1
P4 explain strategies used in health and social care environments to overcome
Being ‘6 Years old’ - Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there can’t help Samir much because age can’t really be overcome, but extra help sessions out of hours may be available and also help during classes just to expand knowledge.
Being ‘partially sighted’- Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there could help Samir in many different ways they could copy down from the board for him because he is partially sighted. Also teachers/workers at ‘Happy Valley School’ should ensure that Samir is wearing his glasses on during all lessons and they should also make sure that he is as close to the board as possible. Another thing that will help would be to make Samir sit as close to the speaker/teacher as possible so help is always available at hand.
Having a ‘learning difficulty’- Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there could help Samir in many different ways because Samir has learning difficulties and he attends a special need school there is always help at hand but also extra help being given out to those in need of a bit of support. Maybe after hour sessions to add different communication skills to the ones he already had (expanding knowledge – Also non verbal communication can be taught).
Not being able to speak English as a first language- Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there could help Samir by ensuring that there is someone on hand who speaks the same language as Samir and who can interpret and translate between the speaker and Samir. English may be spoken but in a minimal amount this may mean that some understanding is their but not all. Picture cards/symbols can help communication between Samir and the speaker.
‘Not able to ‘read’ some non verbal communication- Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there could help Samir in many different ways they could make audio transcripts so that they could get the message sent to Samir in a way in which he can understand. They should ensure that Samir is close to all the workers in this special school so that he has confidence to work and as he only sees facial expressions of those people he is close to the workers therefore should put in extra effort with him to ensure that he progresses well.
Being Anti- social - Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there could help Samir in many different ways they could set up out of hours sessions where groups of people in his class who lack confidence could socialise together, and then slowly add more and more people who are new comers to the group so that socialising starts and also so that Samir starts to become more confident.
Attending ‘Happy Valley Special School’- Workers at ‘Happy Valley Special School’ or assistants who work there could help Samir in many different ways they could copy down from the board for him because he is partially sighted. In addition to this because Samir has learning difficulties and he attends a special need school there is also extra help being given out to those in need of a bit of support. Maybe after hour sessions to add different communication skills to the ones he already had (expanding knowledge – Also non verbal communication can be taught).
