This is an examination of the role of Strategic Planning in Human Resources Management.

INTRODUCTION

We are looking at what is Strategic Planning in business as a whole and in the Human Resources Department and highlight on its essential elements. In order for a business to be successful, there needs to be a road map for success. The development of sound business strategy is as a result of the strategic planning process. A significant mistake made by businesses large and small, is defining critical business strategies without going through the process. Strategic Planning helps to specify results that are to be achieved and establishes a course of action for achieving them.

AIM

The aim of strategic planning in HRM is that it provides a framework to guide the application of all aspects of an organization’s human resources practice. It identifies long-term vision, supporting success factors, and the most immediate priorities needed to achieve the business strategy. Strategic planning in HRM encompasses both organizational elements and human resources elements.

HRM is vital within companies, but too often misunderstood and underutilized. Strategic planning often encompasses change in workplace systems or processes. The main point is that HRD is often thought of as a destination for ventilating such as employee conflict, employee assistance or compliance issues. But HRD is much more than that, and Top Management would do themselves and their organization well if they included HRM and HRD professionals in their strategic planning.
