      The strategic plan of St. Mary's Hospital (SMH) will answer the question, where does the organization want to be in three years? It will answer why SMH exists, what are the major goals of the organization, what resources are needed for a successful future and who will our customers be? The plan will focus on the organization as a whole; it will help the organization’s leaders to plan for the future (Authenticity Consulting, LLC, 2011). The plan will be the communication tool for SMH leadership to the stakeholders involved and it will be the benchmark for progress at SMH.
      This paper will explain how SMH’s mission, vision and values statements will be validated in the strategic plan, and what information and sources will be used to perform an external and internal environmental analysis.
Validation of the Mission, Vision and Value Statements
      In goals-based planning, the focus will be on the mission, vision, and values statements of SMH. The goals and objectives that will be decided on will work towards SMH’s mission and strategies, what is necessary to achieve these goals, and what action plans are required to achieve the goals decided on by leadership.
      To developing the strategic plan, the Chief Executive Officer and other members of

the Administrative Council, which consists of the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial

Officer, Nursing Administration and other key leaders at SMH will be interviewed and

qualitative information and opinions from each will be gathered. They will also be asked to

answer the questions, what issues should the plan address, what critical issues do they want to

see resolved in the future and what will be expected from the Strategic Plan?
