CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Limcoma Multi-Purpose Cooperative is a pioneer in the feed mill industry in the southern part of Luzon.
As an answer in the economic downfall during the 1970s which resulted to growers‘ inability to purchase livestock feeds, 77 livestock producers established the Lipa City Multi-Purpose Cooperative Marketing
Association, or LIMCOMA with P57,000 as initial capital.
Mission at hand, the organization set up the basics—to mill and produce their own feeds and (feed) supplements, respectively. The cooperative started manual operations wherein the
―pala-pala system‖ called for workers to use spades in a leased rice mill in Lipa City, Batangas.
From there, Limcoma‘s high quality products, performance and dedicated manpower have allowed the cooperative to expand operations.
In 1994, Limcoma became the first computerized feed mill in the Philippines and in the whole of Southeast Asia with state-of-the-art equipment from Netherlands producing high quality feeds with precise mixture of ingredients, churning out exact amounts of product with its plant capacity of 11,000 bags of animal feeds per day. It was also the first to have 97-foot twin silo which is designed to store up to more than 3,600 tons of raw materials with maintained quality and moisture content. To add to its list of achievements, it was also the first local cooperative feed mill to be ISO certified in 2002. At present, it produces 63 registered feed rations for hogs, fowl, tilapia, cattle, horse and rabbits.
The changing times have seen Limcoma go through its own progressive shifts. These days, the organization goes simply by the name Limcoma from its official name change to
Limcoma Multi-Purpose Cooperative in 1992. With regular members standing at 3,787 and associate members at 2,986 as of end-December 2012, it now conducts business in
CALABARZON, Mindoro, Western Visayas, and Camarines Sur.
