Steven Paul Jobs was born on February 24, 1955. (Biography.com, 2011) His biological parents were graduate students at the University of Wisconsin and gave him up for adoption.   Steve was adopted as an infant by Paul and Clara Jobs. He grew up in California’s Silicon Valley and developed a love for electronics through his father. They would take apart electronics and put them back together in their spare time.
Steve Jobs was always known for being extremely intelligent, but he was not always a wonderful student. (Romain Moisescot, 2011) He was the class clown and prankster, but tested so highly the administrators wanted him to skip many grade levels. His parents did not want him to miss out on his youth, so they declined the offer. Eventhough Steve was extremely smart, he only spent one semester in Reed College in Oregon before dropping out. After going through what he called his “hippie period”, he and a friend began building computer mother boards in a garage and selling them to local electronic stores. They named the company Apple Computers.

Without its original founder at its helm, the company began to suffer, particularly when it came to innovation. Jobs had transformed the company from a niche manufacturer of personal computers to one at the forefront of all that is new and exciting in the consumer electronics industry. So rapid was the company’s deterioration that in 1997, the board of directors decided to bring Jobs back on board. In 2000, he was fully reinstated, moving from Interim CEO to CEO.

Back with his brainchild, Jobs set out to reinvent the company. He redesigned the physical shape and colour of the Apple PC, which immediately began to lift sales. From there, he began to fix the long term direction of Apple. From being a pioneer in the wireless industry, to producing a music player, to launching a web-based music store, Jobs took the risks he needed to put Apple back on track.
