Steroids and Entertainment in Baseball
Back in the day, baseball was a totally different sport than it is today, unfortunately. The game has drastically changed from “America’s pastime”, to a sport where the athletes only play for the money. Of course times have changed since the 1940s but they have changed every single sport. Steroids in baseball have somewhat ruined the game and the way people look at it. Entertainment and steroids have really had a negative effect on baseball and its fans.
Baseball’s “golden era” is what made the sport so popular in our country. People loved going out to the ball park to watch their favorite players. Players like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, and Hank Aaron were all influences of many players and coaches today. In the 1950’s, you could watch a profession baseball game for seventy five cents! They are an average of about thirty six dollars now. Baseball was a lot more appreciated back then. When Jackie Robinson first set foot on a Major League Field in 1947, it not only marked a coming of age for the sport but for the country as well(EM). After he split the segregation in baseball, the segregation movement really sped up in the United States. Look how for that’s came in the past twenty or so years.
With all of today’s technology, the players today have a lot more advantages. They have custom made maple wood bats and perfectly lathered up gloves. Gloves and bats used back then were not as good as the ones made today. They have special shoes and nice batting gloves. The advantages of the players today also have changed the game of baseball.
If you watch baseball or sports for that matter, then you know about steroid abuse in sports. Steroids became a really bad problem for baseball in the 1990s which some people like to call the “steroid era.” If a player takes steroids, it makes them stronger without having to work as hard.
