INTRODUCTION
Bio-technology has been greatly developed in response to the high demand in finding the cure of disease. Recently, scientists have been working on “stem cell.” The idea is to create the most profound medicine, which is able to cure Arkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, spinal cord injury, stroke, burns, heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis [1]. The cell is originated primarily from a woman’s egg or other tissues such as heart, lung, skin, which then goes through a lot of preservation steps before it enters the “self-renewal” state/ a steady state.
The idea of “stem cell” however, has already received many complaints. Some people think that the using of woman’s egg is very unethical. “Embryos are human life at its earliest stage, that none of us posses the authority to consent to their destruction. To promote embryo destruction and still claim to be "pro-life," is absurd” (Frist)[7]. Besides receiving donors, the research department was also utilizing their own scientists to provide the egg or the cell as experimental components; the eggs end up being destroyed from a potential life. The stability of the cell is also questioned; the stem cell therapy could result in an uncontrolled growth of cells that could give rise to cancer, tumor or birth defect (An experimental result has showed that a mouse has grown brain tumors [6]). An extensive care must be done to make sure before the produced cell is useable in the future. Yet, to begin research, controversy is always goes along with it; thus, analyzing the reaction of people in different cultures should be interesting.
The objective of the research is to distinguish Americans and Asians regarding their view on the “stem cell” and the origin of life. Education and research in the United States are always highly supported and favored. Therefore, extensive research and pursuing higher education level are taken to be the pride of Americans [8]; thus, we may assume that... [continues]
