Jeremy Bentham was born in London on 1748. He became a writer and published a series of books on philosophy, economic and politics. Bentham was a well-known philosopher that recognized each individual’s ability to produce pleasure and happiness while preventing unhappiness, pain, and misery. Purpose of this paper is to identify and summarize Bentham’s philosophical theory, describe principle of utility and how he proposed that we evaluate pleasure. Lastly, stem cell research is something that Bentham would have approved on because he wanted to leave his body to science to conduct stem cell research. Bentham’s philosophical theory

Bentham’s philosophical theory is based on pain and pleasure. Bentham’s beliefs are saying to people, that they need to disguise painful situations in order to obtain pleasure. “Bentham's utilitarianism moral rule is this: what one needs to do is to maximize pleasure and minimize pain. As a keen reformer of political, legal and social institutions, he argued that these institutions should be set up in accordance with this rule.” (Asiado, 2008). Bentham’s beliefs on happiness are even in a bad situation or poor scenario one should learn from their experience and find a positive outcome. In every action there are consequences what a person makes of the consequences can be approved or disapproved.
