Statement of Purpose for Overseas Studies
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
“ If what we are now, has been the result of out past actions, then it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions” Swami Vivekananda
My name is Abhishek Ranganathan. I pursued my undergraduate studies in Computer Sciences and Engineering at MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India. I am planning to pursue my higher education and I really hope to get enrolled into the Masters program, for the term starting September 2013. In the following paragraphs I have summarized my educational background, motivation for graduate study and my areas of Interest.
Starting off with my academics, I completed my schooling in Jnana Teja English School, Mathikere, Bangalore. My school helped me develop better in the field of science, right from initial stages, with different techno fests, science expos and I have secured 82% marks in 10th standard. I secures 60% (59.66)in pre-university examination since my health was not good during the final examinations. I almost threw up in the exam hall and my concentration was totally on making sure that I wont threw up there and disturb others.
Later I joined my engineering course in computer science. Unfortunately, I started developing migraine symptoms. Initially, the doctors could not identify the cause and just told me to take nutritious food and exercise a bit. But the symptoms only aggravated and I could just pass all the papers. It became worse later. I used to be so tired always and used to lie down the moment I came back from college. I felt weakness in my upper limbs, lost appetite and my grades started sinking. I could not cope up and lost some subjects.
In fact, my doctor Dr Madan advised me to take bed rest for a faster recovery and told that attending the classes without energy and concentration will not yield any results. Fortunately, that time the college was closed for holidays.Though I was still tired when the college

I’m a student, and I myself experience that to some extent. All day I sit at school and study, which is not easy. Teachers give me a lot of information, and I am supposed to not only listen but also reply to them. Responding needs some energy, and energy you can get from eating, eating not what is tasty, but eating healthy food. My mom, thank her, every day used to give me some snack to school and it was helpful. Also doing exercise is good, but I don’t have time for it. Of course, there are stressful situations after which I have a headache and lose my weight, which is clearly not good. Again, my family is with me and supports me. Everything that happens with me I read in this research. I’m glad that students have time and make some researches. It is a global problem. If the administrations of colleges or universities pay attention what kind of food they sell, make importance of exercise and engage health care centers to help students in stressful situations, it will help them to study and be healthy or strive to be healthy, because they will know that they are not alone and they can ask for…

After my first migraine attack, I kept getting them every day. As they kept happening, new symptoms would arise. Anything from slurred speech, dizziness, and vomiting to blurred vision, numbness in the face, and feeling tender all over my body. The list goes on but these were my most common symptoms. I was afraid to do anything because everything seemed to trigger a migraine. Even kneeling down to pick something up or smelling perfume would be an instant trigger for me. My life got to the point where I wasn’t able to enjoy watching television. I had to adjust the brightness so low that I couldn’t see what was happening. My social life declined tremendously. Spending time with my friends and family wasn’t an option for me anymore since I woke…

There were multiple unknown eyes staring at me, waiting quietly to introduce myself during a law camp in the summer. My palms become cold and sweaty at the same time as I struggled to think of words that would make me sound intelligent and appealing. I only had two options: either make this the most boring week, or the best week. As I started to speak, I made a conscious decision to ensure that I stepped out of my comfort zone and amaze everyone, be less conservative, and communicate. Stepping out of my comfort zone allowed others to notice the qualities I project. Like that week in the summer, I will try to describe them again; my personality traits and strengths, weaknesses, and my future goals.…

Due to my father’s economic disability, I started to work at a café during my school days. I have worked two to three times a week which disturbed my study. I attended only few lectures and tutorials trying my best and keep up with work, but despite my efforts, I still experienced stress and exhaustion during the study sessions which distracted me from focusing on the lecturer and tutorial. Furthermore, due to my family’s negative situation, during my study periods I booked appointments with Academic Skills about four times and…

Since my school days, I have been interested in Mathematics and physical sciences. My scholastic record has been meritorious right through school and higher secondary education. With my propensity towards Mathematics and physics, I chose Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry as my group for post-secondary education. I was placed in the top 3% of nearly 200,000 enthusiastic students in the entrance examination for Engineering. This performance helped me in getting admission in to CVR College of Engineering, one of the top institutions for engineering in Andhra Pradesh, India. My fascination for engineering was from an early stage though not a conscious one. There have been doers because there have been dreamers, in our dreams we see not what is, but what can be. It is with such dreams and visions that today we stand at the milestone of success. The sweeping changes in the Technological world and Computers have made the role of computer science engineer a really indispensable one. It has been my deepest desire to be a part of this rapidly burgeoning community. My strong penchant towards programming languages like C which was taught in our high school and also the versatility of the Computers and my basic interest in the field of programming motivated me to take Computer Science and Engineering as my major in undergraduate program. My years as an undergraduate student have influenced me the most. Academically I have matured a lot during this period. It was here that I understood the need to put theory into practice and most…
