Abstract
Today in the highly competitive environment it’s very important to be aware of changing technology in your respective field. Technology in every field is changing day by day and Professionals have to cope-up with the changes. In this respect Civil Engineering is not different, rapid changes are taking place in the field of designing and construction methodology. Gone are the days when a design used to take years. Now with the help of various design software available in the market economic and more reliable structural designs are made at much faster rate. Different software’s available in the market are ABACUS, MIDAS, Rim Bridge, ANSYS, ETABs and STAAD.Pro etc. The focus of this paper is on STAAD Pro. STAAD Pro is the product of “Bentley” which offers software solutions in the domain of Civil Engineering. STAAD is the most popular and user friendly software available in the market. It is widely used for analysis and design of structures made of Steel, RCC, and Aluminium etc. according to the design standards and design codes set by different countries. Literature Review

STAAD first version was built for DOS Operating System way back in 1981. It was non-graphical software, so the user had to first understand the syntax of STAAD language of commands in order to create the input file then had to send this file to the analysis and design engine for execution. With time, STAAD progress to create its own graphical environment, this was a major change for the STAAD users, as they were able to build their input file without the need to understand the syntax of STAAD language. Slowly other features like 3D Modelling and designing, data sharing capabilities with other major software like AutoCAD, and MS Excel were incorporated Introduction

STAAD stands for Structural Analysis and Design. It was the first software made with the purpose of helping Structural Engineers, so that they can automate their work and eliminate the tedious and lengthy procedures of the manual methods. STAAD Pro can generate reports of the inputs and the outputs with the usage of graphical results embedded within, which can be considered as final document presented to the client. For any structural engineer the most tedious job is to perform Live Load Analysis, Seismic Analysis, Time History Analysis, Wind Analysis and Response Spectra. STAAD’s ability to perform all these tasks in a single package with minimal time gives STAAD an edge over other structural design software.

In Civil Engineering various fields are linked together for example Pipe Lines and Structures. The demand for an improved workflow for data between the piping stress engineer and the structural engineer led to the implementation of the Piping Mode in STAAD.Pro. In order to further improve the workflow a number of major improvements have been made. The introduction of a new database system called Pipe Link allows multiple pipe models to be integrated into a STAAD.Pro model.
