Sports Management: It's My Calling
It was a sunny day in the Orlando metro area, I can still remember exactly where I was sitting at that exact moment. Up until that point in my undergraduate studies, I thought I had everything figured out. I had commandeered a one man army over the past three years, telling anybody who would listen how inspired I was by the law. It was an explosion of excitement that I could barely keep under control. On this particular day though, I collapsed. My heart dug down into my ribs searching for a place to hide. There it was sitting in front of my eyes on the coffee table, my first LSAT score.
At that point my arms began to feel heavy, and my head had become filled with doubt. I started asking myself some colorful questions, each feeling like a knife scouring through my body for some undefined reason. Was this the right path for me after all? What do I do now? How do I tell mom and dad? What will all my peers think if they find out I'm not attending law school in the fall? With every question leaving its mark, I began to falter. Was I ever going to reach my dream job of becoming an agent?
It was the day I got my first LSAT score back that I decided to look further into a graduate program other than in the form of law. I dreamed of attending law school at the University of Miami specializing in the areas of Sports and Entertainment Law. Hence, it was the only rational thing to do when I started looking up graduate programs around the country involving the management of sports and entertainment. I always had an interest in becoming an agent, and people always asked "Well, how are you going to get there after getting out of law school?". The answer was never clear to me, I always thought I could just learn all the tools I would need from law school. It became easier to grasp after sitting down for a visit in my academic adviser's office that a more specialized graduate program might be just what I was looking for.... [continues]
