We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams. Today, we are going to give a speech regarding Multiculturalism. Multiculturalism relates to communities containing multiple cultures. It usually refers to the simple fact of cultural diversity. Multiculturalism is sometimes taken to mean that different cultural communities should live their own ways of life in a self-contained manner. To understand multiculturalism is to appreciate that it means many different things. To some, it is merely sampling different cultures, such as a carnival or festival. But to others, it may seem as a road to challenging structural inequalities.

Why does multiculturalism matter to us? Is it even important? Yes, it does matter and it is important. Multiculturalism is important because it encourages dialogue, often between different cultures that have radically different perspectives. It is also a bridge between the divide of tolerance and acceptance. I, myself, believe multiculturalism is good for society because it helps break down many barriers between different ethnic group. Think about it this way, if we eat Indian food, for example, and enjoy it, we have been exposed to an element of another ethnic group. Meeting and appreciating people of other culture enriches our lives. Ignorance of other people can and does create suspicion and fear. It can even lead to blind hatred.

Multiculturalism does not only mean respecting other’s culture or belief. It also means being fair with one another. For example, if the country is majority governed by Malays, then the government cannot only give more opportunities only to the Malays. Every ethnic group must all have equal access to the services available in their country.
