Corporal Punishment was originally a type of punishment used on people who had committed a crime. Meanwhile, for thousands of years its been used on children, to create physical pain when they weren’t obedient. From the years of 1975 through 1985 a national survey revealed that 90% of parents used Corporal punishment. In Texas, A mother of 3 children was given 5 years of probation due to the cause that she spanked her nearly 2 year old daughter. The child’s actions where not stated. As well, the mother had to take parental classes and pay a fine to the Children’s Advocacy Center. Parents should not hit their children. Yes, I know that sometimes kid’s get out of hand and out of control, but hitting them is no way of punishment. When parents discipline there children by spanking them, kid’s are only going to be good in front of there parents. When their parent’s are not around they are going to be as bad as they where before. There are other alternatives when it comes to a punishment such as: grounding them, or as easy as taking something they value away from them. Hitting them creates a lower self esteem, a feeling of helplessness and anxiety. Children who are hit even just a few times when young develop depressive symptoms’ in there adulthood. Those who are spanked are more likely to behave aggressively toward others. They eventually create a repressed anger and a strong need for revenge; as bullying their classmates in school. Hitting them is easier and a faster way to teach them a lesson, but it represents’ impulsive violence and a lack of your own self control.
