This topic will cover the impact that soybeans have on our society and how they may affect our future resources. Soybeans are an up and coming farming commodity and have helped replace lost income of tobacco. This paper will address questions of how safe consumption of soybeans are and if there is any impacts negatively. Various products (besides use as food) are made of soybeans for example: fuels, oils, and gasoline. As parents and consumers are we to feel safe with what the medical profession and government deem healthy for our children to consume? Soybeans are considered a miracle product in several arenas of our human lives. This paper will look at several as we move through the topics.
University of Kentucky boasts on their agriculture website that Kentucky brings $300 million dollars plus in revenue grown on about 1.3 million acres. This is a very lucrative amount of income for farmers to make a living off of. It’s now the second largest crop based on acreage in the United States and is exported in the 30 to 40% range according to University of Kentucky’s agricultural website. The difference between organically raised soybeans and commercially raised soybeans are mostly established by the amount of acreage a farmer owns or farms. Organic soybeans are found to be on smaller farms and a touch more to harvest. Commercially raised soybeans typically come from farms that are much more acreage. Due to a farmer needing to grow a product for three years before it can be claimed as a legitimate organic product, the time is considered a investment. It will cost an organic soybean grower more per bushel to raise produce and less per bushel for commercial growers. However, the consumer will pay more per bushel for organic than commercial grade soybeans. Commercial grade will go into being made for feed and fuel.
