“SONA 2013 REACTION PAPER”
President Benigno Simeon “PNoy” Aquino III delivered his fourth annual State of the Nation Address in Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City on July 22, 2013 with the theme, “Sa Gitna ng Daang Matuwid.” President Aquino’s speech was very comprehensive, covering a lot of areas which include the accomplishments of his administration in political and economic aspects, praises for public servants and government departments who made outstanding services for the country, and also strongly-worded criticisms against corrupt public servants and erring government agencies. He cited the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and increase in number of TESDA graduates. I disagree with the 4ps, its teaching Pilipinos how to become lazy, there is a saying, “give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and you feed him for a life time.” It is more worthwhile to teach someone to do something, than to do something for them. Rather than feeding them, teach them how to earn a living, teach them how to develop into a person qualified for a job. Regarding the 4P's, though I know it was really a good help to its beneficiaries I hope that those people would not just depend on the government. They should be also productive in their own. And also President Aquino, did not elaborately mention what are his plans for the next succeeding years for the country. Our president really did a good job, especially in fighting against corruption in the government. As many people know that 40 percent of our total budget will go only to the pockets to our corrupt government officials. Replace them now. There are many qualified individual out there; they should be kept in the position. It’s good to hear the Sona of our President. It gives enough information regarding on the situation of our country. But the thing is he didn’t mention the arising problem regarding on China, Taiwan and North Korea and also the plan of the U.S to have a military Bases again in our country. His speech was way too long for him to miss the arising problems of our country. Mr President, better create projects that will generate income and hire those poor and un-employed Filipinos rather this PANTAWID PAMILYA which is not a permanent solution to poverty, it will be unfair to those who strived hard to fight poverty, and you will make these poor to become lazy seeking for jobs. Create a company of Filipinos and for Filipinos rather than dealing with foreign investors to develop the country. Which means income for the Government and income for every family of Filipinos!! . I think it should be proper and more economical that those projects that do not generate income (such as roads, bridges, etc.) must not be given to contractors. Why not using our own resources and manpower, and those concerned government agencies to supervise the projects? Hire un-employed qualified Filipinos and instead the profits will be given to contractors, why not giving to those Filipinos who are willing to work for the developments....? The proposed increase of contributions of SSS must be studied carefully. Why not think of a more efficient and effective ways of using those contributions to increase its income or profits in order that the pension will be maintained or even make it better? It is not proper that the Filipinos contribute additional cost to their SSS wherein their salaries or income has no increase. Think of a way wherein Filipinos will not suffer just for the good of other Filipinos. The proposed increased of fare for LRT and MRT must be avoided, if we think to lessen their expenses, retain the cost of maintenance or even lessen by introducing economical technologies and locally available materials, further amendment with the agreement between the MRT-LRT and the government, and study the proportion of increasing the cost of living of the affected Filipinos to their salaries or income. Train hike is so unfair...
