Reaction Paper : 2011 State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III

Last 25th of July this year, the State Of the Nation Address was held. As far as I remember, President Benigno Aquino III won last election maybe because of the help of the economic background of his parents contributed upon us. His advertisements were obviously all connected to his parents’ personal background.

Way back 1970’s, that is, the deceased Benigno Aquino (Ninoy) had fight for the human rights against Former President Ferdinand Marcos that initiate the Martial Law occurrence. In that way I admired Ninoy for having a large contribution for our country. In that incident, most of the people suffered from Marcos that made the people put their trust on Ninoy. When he died on 1983, his wife, Corazon Aquino, on the latter part was elected and became the 11th president of our country, signifying the essence of freedom by the presence of the yellow ribbon.

Going to the main subject matter, I somehow agreed with PNoy’s speech most mainly the things being focused on the future plans to our country. The changes that he wants to attain on our government aspects have been said. His plans seem fulfilling to the public, and I’m hoping that it’ll not be only a plan that is being thought of, but could be true someday. He also focused the “Wang-Wang” thing that refers to the usage of abusive power among the public officials in our country. In this mentality he wants this to be removed in our society. He also discussed the contributions he has made in our nation like having an improvement on our stock market.

The president reiterated his policy against corruption and abuse of power. He cited his wang-wang policy as a the symbol of change, not only in the streets but also in society. He again enumerated irregularities in the previous administration, revealing that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation spent P1 billion for coffee.Aquino

Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s achievements about the economy, I am thankful for Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s achievements for creating a flawless and awesome job for building and creating for giving employment to millions of people who were jobless In the Philippines, and also thanking her for creating a lot of public schools for a lot of people who cannot afford education, students or young people who cannot afford to go to school because of financial problem. I thought that our former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is not great because our former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo cheated in the election against Fernando Poe Junior. She also cheated in the election by seeking the help from Garcy. Our former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is getting money from the government that we were all even trying to pay our taxes for a good economy even though that our parents were all having a hard time earning such money to pay the tax, but she just stole it from us like it was hers, and that made me realize how pathetic she was.…

hope that he would bring back honesty as guiding principle into the actions and decisions of this office – as it had been the case during the presidency of his revered mother Cory Aquino 1986 – 1992, whose passing away in summer 2009 had plummeted the nation into deep nostalgic mood and initiated the request of the Liberal Party for her son as presidential candidate in the 2010 elections;…

The simple yet notably patriotic statement of the president earned the applause of the participants at the conference, in which hopefully the Filipinos appreciated it - regardless of their political stand about his administration. Come to think of it, it would be wonderful if the statement “I love the Philippines more” is likewise uttered – loud and proud – by every Filipino; with the ‘loving part’ put into action in perpetuum.…

n the second year of the presidency of Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III, his administration continues to unravel as brandishing more of the same elite governance defined and motivated by the narrow agenda and interests of the few. This was evident in the impeachment of Corona which was sold to the public as part of his “daang matuwid” agenda but soon enough was perceived as an effort to control the entire bureaucracy for selfserving political and economic reasons. As is the nature of traditional politics, the Aquino presidency has played along the agenda of the US, the long-time patron of the country’s elite, in exchange for its continued patronage and support. By serving as the agent of increased US military presence in the region, Aquino has stoked the tension with China over disputed territories, in the process risking regional stability and further undermining national sovereignty. As is the nature of traditional politics, the Aquino presidency has promoted an economic regime that excludes the poor while creating the most favorable environment for big business through public-private partnership (PPP) or the intensified corporate takeover of various economic sectors and activities— from utilities and social services to the exploitation of natural resources. Its claim of inclusive growth is being belied by increasing poverty and social restiveness that even massive doses of conditional cash transfer (CCT) dole outs could not pacify. Meanwhile, the human rights of those who dissent against the enduring social injustice and lack of real reforms continue to be abused with impunity by alleged state forces.…

During the historic event, Aquino disclosed that on top of his priorities is to tend the culture of bad governance and for him to set a good example in getting rid of corrupt practices in public administration (Mabasa, 2010). A good speech, however, does not yet make a good presidency, and Aquino’s first appointments and policy decisions were awaited eagerly. The President Benigno Aquino III successfully delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Batasang Pambansa even there were so many militant’s outside. During his speech I became more open-minded about his administration and on what problem they are really focusing on and feel pity for those militant’s because some of the problems they are pointing to President Aquino must be point first to their designated local government. And as one of the people of this community we must also understand that those projects and progress takes time.He tackled the very important topic of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) and defended his stance, showing all the projects where the funds and savings of the DAP was directed to. He said that this DAP fund was able to help TESDA scholars. He also shared about the Philippines as one of the leading countries in Asia, for its growth in GDP, GNP. Also, the employment rate had increased and that this reflects how the government handled the labor policies.…

The Fifth State of the Nation Address, SONA 2014, was successfully delivered on Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City. The President's second to the last SONA marked his fourth year in presidency, earning several rounds of applause from Senators, Congressmen, government officials, local and international media and few celebrities in the country. This year's SONA had no published theme, but the remarkable message he mentioned at the end of his speech was, as we quoted from the slain senator Ninoy Aquino, “The Filipino is worth dying for.”, “The Filipino is worth living for living for.”, "and The Filipino is definitely worth fighting for."…

INTRODUCTION “Tuwid na Daan” or the Straight Path is a phrase repeatedly mentioned by President Benigno S. Aquino III to pertain to his governance direction for the country. Essential to this concept of “Tuwid na Daan” is the battle cry “Kung Walang Corrupt, Walang Mahirap.” The administration believes that corruption is the root cause of the country‘s woes, and eliminating corruption will necessarily lead to renewed investor confidence, eventual growth and development, poverty reduction, and attainment of peace. The straight path, however, does not only pertain to the President‘s anti-corruption campaign. It also encompasses a way of doing things right, where the process is participatory; the programs are holistic; growth is sustained; the peace policy is comprehensive; and development is sustainable. Through the living examples of our leaders, led by the President, this re-awakened sense of right and wrong continues to be translated to economic value. It is in this light that the accomplishments of the Aquino Administration, since the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July 2010, are being highlighted: A. GOOD GOVERNANCE AND ANTI-CORRUPTION Taking the initial step in the achievement of ―Kung Walang Corrupt, Walang Mahirap‖, where eradicating corruption is seen as the key approach to development, President Aquino laid the foundations for a clean, transparent, and responsive government. Key reforms continue to be instituted to reduce red tape, enforce anti-corruption and anti-red tape laws, and penalize those who violate these laws. The government is also fixing the incentive structures to recognize merit and reward good performance with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of the Aquino reform agenda. These and other initiatives are presented below: 1. Institutionalizing Public Accountability 1.1. Reforming the budgeting and project identification processes 1.1.1. Government‘s prudent expenditure…
