The first backgrounds about sojourner truth was that she was born into slavery in Swartekill, Ulster county, New York but escaped with her infant daughter to freedom in 1826(ABC: CLIO). The second background facts about her is that she fought to be free as she was a slave at one point she wanted to abolish slavery(Sojourner Truth Memorial). She became a noted speaker for both the abolitionist movement and women's rights movement. She gave a famous speech called the "Ain't I a women?" to fight for women's rights. The third background fact about her is how she was the first black woman to win a case against a white man. She became the first black woman to one a case against a white man.
